Organic Foods

Have you ever heard of organic bread? Organic foods, or organically grown foods, are foods produced without using pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, growth hormones, herbicides and any other chemicals. These foods are treated with compost (decayed plant matter) and manure (animal excrement). To manage inhabitation of pests and weeds, alternative methods are being applied.

Some organic farming advocates say that organic foods are healthier than processed ones or foods produced by conventional farming; however, this claim has been debunked by a study, conducted by researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, which concludes that these foods have no nutritional benefits over the ordinary ones. This discovery caused a drop in the consumer demand for organic foods in markets like Britain wherein people, badly affected by the global economic recession, cut back on excessive food purchases.
